‘Super-ready’ – Manager wants to see Spurs player get international call up

Udinese boss Andrea Sottil has said that Destiny Udogie is more than ready to make his debut for Italy’s senior side.

Tottenham decided to snap up Udogie last summer on the back of his breakthrough season in 2021-22 and decided to loan him back to Udinese.

The signing seems better and better with each passing week, with the 20-year-old hitting ever greater heights for the Serie A club so far this season.

The youngster has not just been excellent defensively but also has the engine to go up and down the pitch through the 90 minutes while being capable of making an impact in the final third.

On the face of it, Udogie seems like a perfect fit for the left wing-back role in Antonio Conte’s system, with Fabio Paratici even describing him as a ‘complete player’ in an interview with Tottenham’s club’s official website.

Udogie has represented Italy at all age group levels from Under-16s to Under-21s but he is yet to get a call-up to the senior Azzurri set-up.

When asked why the left-back has not made his debut for Italy yet, Sottil told TuttoMercatoWeb: “You should ask coach Mancini, for me he is super-ready. I train him every day and I see him do what he does in Serie A, with disarming ease.

“It is no coincidence that Tottenham bought him, paying out several million euros for a player born in 2002. If you ask me, he is super-ready.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Out of all our signings last summer, Udogie might actually prove to be the best one.

The 20-year-old appears ready to walk into the Tottenham team as first-choice at left wing-back and there is no doubt that we would have had to pay a considerably bigger fee had we signed him last month or the upcoming summer window.
