‘Superb friendlies and total safety’ – Mourinho mocks international break on Instagram

Jose Mourinho has taken to Instagram to express his displeasure at the way the international break has been organised in his typically sarcastic manner.

The Football Association of Ireland today confirmed that Matt Doherty has tested positive for COVID-19 which will mean that the right-back will have to self-isolate and will be unavailable for Tottenham’s clash against Manchester City on Saturday (The Athletic).

The news came less than 24 hours after Doherty played all ninety minutes of a Nations League encounter against Wales where he was up against Spurs teammates Gareth Bale, Ben Davies and Joe Rodon.

There are also fears around Son Heung-min after six of his South Korean teammates tested positive for the virus over the weekend.

Despite the positive tests, South Korea’s international friendly with Mexico on Saturday still went ahead, while there is no confirmation yet on whether their game against Qatar tomorrow is set to go ahead.

The Tottenham boss is understandably far from pleased with his players being put under risk while on international duty.

He took to Instagram to post a picture of himself working out in the gym, with the caption: “Amazing week of football. Great emotions in the national team matches, superb friendlies and total safety.

“Covid test results after matches been played, randomers running on the pitch while team sessions are taking place and much more.

“After another training session with only 6 players, it is now time to take care of myself.”
