Opta’s Supercomputer has revised its prediction about Tottenham’s Champions League prospects following their 0-0 draw with Monaco.
The metrics suggest that Spurs’ results this season have largely flattered them, with the club’s performances not inspiring much confidence.
That is even truer in the Champions League than it is in the Premier League. Spurs were lucky to beat Villarreal at home in their opener and would have lost away at Bodo/Glimt if not for a late comeback from 2-0 down.
Their performance yesterday was arguably their worst one yet, with Monaco failing to score despite registering an xG of 2.68 goals against Tottenham, with Gugliemo Vicario making eight saves.

Opta’s supercomputer predicts where Tottenham will finish
Following gameweek two in the Champions League, Opta had predicted that Tottenham would finish in 11th place in the Champions League.
Following their 0-0 draw at Stade Louis II, Opta’s algorithm now predicts that Thomas Frank’s men will finish in 12th place, accumulating an estimated 13.17 points.
While that would see the Lilywhites miss out on direct qualification to the round of 16, it would still be enough to progress to the knockout stages.
However, when it comes to expected points, Tottenham Hotspur sit all the way down in 31st place, which means that based on xG, only five teams have performed worse than Spurs in the Champions League this season.
What are Spurs’ chances of qualifying for the Champions League knockouts?
Many Tottenham fans will feel that Opta’s prediction is generous, based on what the eye test says about the side this season.
The algorithm puts the North London club’s chances of finishing in the top eight and securing direct qualification to the round of 16 stage at just 19.4 per cent.
However, Opta do give Tottenham a 76.7 per cent chance of finishing in the top 24 places and progressing to the knockout stage of the competition.
