Tottenham picked up their first point of the season at Nottingham Forest on Saturday, and that has impacted a supercomputer’s prediction of where they will finish in the league table.
Before the start of the season, Opta’s Supercomputer predicted that Tottenham would finish in seventh place despite the Lilywhites only barely escaping relegation last season.
That prediction matched the general optimism among Spurs fans after the club made wholesale changes to the squad in the summer and strengthened some key areas.
However, Tottenham have picked up just one point from their first three league fixtures, and have now played six halves of football without scoring a single goal.

Opta’s Supercomputer revises Tottenham’s final league position prediction
Following the 2-0 loss at home to Newcastle, the algorithm predicted that Spurs would end the season in 14th place, just three spots better off from the last two campaigns.
After their hard-fought 0-0 draw against Palace, Opta now suggests that Roberto De Zerbi’s men are on course to finish 13th, with an expected 46.78 points.
The website says Spurs have just a 5.7 per cent chance of qualifying for next season’s Champions League. Additionally, Tottenham are given a 19.38 per cent chance of being relegated.
What will constitute a good season for Spurs?
While Spurs may have finished 17th the last two seasons, they certainly did not have the 17th-best squad in the league, and were ravaged by injuries.
It is thus disingenuous to suggest that a mid-table finish this season will signal improvement from the last two seasons, particularly given the funds that have been invested in the summer.
Roberto De Zerbi should and likely will be given the time to mould this squad into a proper team, but anything below a top six finish would be a disappointing season for the club.
