Supercomputer predicts Tottenham’s Premier League finish after another woeful defeat

Opta’s prediction on where Tottenham Hotspur will finish in the Premier League table makes for grim reading for Spurs fans.

Just when Spurs fans thought their side had turned a corner with two back-to-back home wins against Brentford and Slavia Prague, they were brought crashing down to earth again at the City Ground.

Nottingham Forest emerged comfortable 3-0 winners on Sunday, and the away side struggled to create many chances of note, which is something Tottenham fans have got too used to seeing this season.

Thomas Frank referred to Tottenham’s performance as ‘annoying’ and ‘burning’, which is really the first time we have seen the Dane being hyper-critical of any of his side’s displays.

Opta expects Tottenham to finish in the bottom half of the Premier League table

Spurs are currently languishing in 11th place in the Premier League table, and that is exactly where Opta’s Supercomputer expects them to finish.

The data-analysis platform predicts that the Lilywhites will accumulate an expected 52.64 points across their 38 league matches.

More worryingly, their algorithm gives Spurs just a 3.23 per cent chance of qualifying for next season’s Champions League.

What would constitute a successful season for Spurs?

According to reports, Thomas Frank is in no immediate danger of losing his job, with the Tottenham hierarchy ready to give him time to turn things around.

However, one would think that his position would become untenable if Spurs finish around mid-table and fail to win a trophy this season.

Some experts think Tottenham would have to finish in the top six for Frank to keep his job, and the Lilywhites have plenty of work to do if they are going to achieve that this season.
