Opta’s Supercomputer has revised its prediction on where Tottenham Hotspur will finish in the Premier League this season after they suffered a loss to Newcastle in their first home game of the season.
Spurs fans were desperate to see their side make a winning start at home to banish the memories of their major struggles at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium over the last two seasons.
While they would have been encouraged by some aspects of the Lilywhites’ performance, especially in the first half, it was the Magpies who sunk the defining blows in the second period, walking away with all three points.
Given the money that Spurs have spent this summer, the media are predictably already trying to play up talk of a mini crisis, and a supercomputer has now provided a worrying prediction after the most recent defeat.
Tottenham drop seven places in Opta’s predicted Premier League table
Before the start of the season, Opta’s Supercomputer predicted that Tottenham would finish in seventh place, expecting the club to have a significantly improved showing to last season.
However, just two games into the season, the AI model has revised its prediction, suggesting that the club could be set for another extremely poor campaign.
Opta have now predicted that Tottenham will finish in 14th place, accumulating an expected 46.72 points across the 2026-27 campaign.
Finishing just three places above the horror show of the last two seasons will certainly not be acceptable for the North Londoners, given the investments they have made into the squad this summer.
Spurs given more than one in five chance of relegation
What will concern Tottenham fans is that following the latest round of results, Opta believes that being involved in another relegation battle is not out of the question for the Lilywhites.
According to the data analysis website, there is a 21 per cent chance that Spurs could end up being relegated this campaign after escaping the drop by the skin of their teeth last term.
In contrast, the model now gives Tottenham just a 5.8 per cent chance of qualifying for the Champions League.
