Supercomputer predicts where Tottenham will finish this season in the PL

Data Analysis firm FiveThiryEight have crunched the numbers and predicted that Tottenham Hotspur will clinch the final Champions League spot once again this season.

With Newcastle United being involved in the Carabao Cup final on Sunday, Spurs had a golden opportunity to stretch their leads over the Magpies and they did just that, overcoming Chelsea 2-0 at home.

The result means that Antonio Conte’s men now sit four points ahead of Newcastle, who still have two games in hand over the Lilywhites.

After their latest win over the Blues, FiveThiryEight’s model predicts that Spurs will finish with 67 points, three more than Eddie Howe’s men in fifth and four more than Liverpool in sixth place.

The model gives the North London club a 42 per cent chance of finishing in the top four, which makes them favourites over Newcastle (30 per cent), Liverpool (22 per cent) and Brighton (17 per cent).

However, one thing Spurs fans will not like is that the model deduces that their local rivals, Arsenal, will win the league with 84 points, two more than Manchester City.

Spurs Web Opinion

The top-four picture looks completely different to how it did a couple of weeks ago, which shows how a few good results can rocket teams up the table this season, given the inconsistencies of the majority of the sides in and around the top four.

I believe that Liverpool, who are currently nine points behind Spurs with two games in hand, are likely to be our main challengers for a fourth spot over Newcastle, given the Reds’ experience of picking up results at the business end of the season.
