Supercomputer revises Tottenham’s relegation chances after another week of turmoil

Opta’s Supercomputer has revised its prediction on how likely Tottenham Hotspur are to be relegated from the Premier League this season following the club’s latest home defeat.

There was a haunting sense of familiarity with how meekly Tottenham Hotspur folded at home to Newcastle.

The away side dominated proceedings for large parts of the game, including the entire first period, with the Lilywhites struggling to progress the ball forward or create chances.

Spurs fell to a 2-1 loss, which meant that they also fell to 16th in the table, and the result has forced Tottenham to part ways with Thomas Frank, eight months following his appointment.

Opta predicts Tottenham’s chances of being relegated from the Premier League

Ahead of Tuesday’s game, Opta predicted that Tottenham had just a 2.29 per cent chance of going down this season.

Opta have now increased those chances to 3.40 per cent after Spurs fell to yet another loss at home, which is a 50 per cent increase in their relegation probability just one game.

However, the supercomputer still considers West Ham overwhelming favourites to join Wolves and Burnley in the Championship next term, with the Hammers given a 70.54 per cent chance of going down.

How does Spurs relegation probability compare with Nottingham Forest’s?

The data analysis platform also suggests that Nottingham Forest are much more likely to be relegated from the Premier League than the Lilywhites are.

Forest have been given a 20.11 per cent chance of finishing in the bottom three, which is over six times as likely as Spurs.

So all in all, the supercomputer still expects Tottenham to get out of trouble, with the North Londoners predicted to accumulate around 44 points and finish 16th.
