Graeme Souness has claimed that Tottenham Hotspur fans need to offer more support to their players and Antonio Conte after he watched them fall to a 2-1 defeat to Liverpool yesterday evening.
Tottenham dropped down fourth in the Premier League table after they were unable to take all three points against Jurgen Klopp’s side and have now been replaced by Newcastle United in third place.
Spurs were once slow out of the blocks for the fourth game in a row and it proved to be costly with Liverpool already 2-0 ahead by half time, with some of the home support making their feelings known with boos ringing out around the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium as the players headed to the dressing room.
Antonio Conte’s side have already suffered defeats at the hands of Arsenal, Manchester United and Newcastle United and are now eight points behind their north London rivals, having played a game more.
Souness told Sky Sports: “I think Spurs have got the right manager and some really good players.
“They will do well. Slowly, slowly, don’t be critical, let the team evolve and support them.
“The support could be better. They are a demanding crowd. They feel they should have more. But l think if Arsenal were below them they wouldn’t be making the same noises.”
Tottenham fans have become frustrated with the performances they have witnessed during the first half in recent weeks and in the case of the Liverpool match, left themselves with too much to do in the second half.
Daniel Levy charges top dollar for the fans to attend the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and they expect to be entertained, Conte and his team are doing their best but the lack of depth in the squad is clear to see and something that needs to be addressed in January.
