Giovani Lo Celso has named his compatriot Cristian Romero as the best player at Tottenham Hotspur, admitting that he was mightily impressed by the centre-back the first time he came across him in the Argentine set-up.
While Romero’s talent has been there for all to see from the day he walked through the door at Hotspur Way two and a half years ago, much like many centre-backs who arrive in the Premier League, the defender has had a steep learning curve.
Some question marks were raised last season about the 25-year-old, who was part of an extremely leaky backline under Antonio Conte.
However, the former Juventus star has demonstrated this season just why he is held in such high regard by so many of his teammates at Spurs and in the Argentine national side.

Is Cristian Romero the best player at Tottenham?
Lo Celso, who has had the chance to share a dressing room with the centre-back both at club and international level, waxed lyrical about the Tottenham vice-captain’s quality.
When asked who the best player at Spurs is, the midfielder told the club’s official channel: “For me, it’s Cristian Romero. I’ve said it since the day he arrived and I’ll keep it saying it. I was surprised from the first day, first in the national team and then here at the club.
“The way he integrated and performed here at the club is still surprising. He deserves everything he has got up until now and everything he will get.”

There is no doubt that Romero is now one of the best central defenders in the Premier League and arguably one of the best in the world. Postecoglou’s system has brought the best out of the Argentine as it allows him to be aggressive in winning the ball and showcase his quality with the ball at his feet.
