Survey findings show momentum shift among Spurs fans for Jose Mourinho

It is fair to say that Jose Mourinho and Tottenham Hotspur did not exactly have the makings of a happy marriage when the Portuguese coach walked through the door at the club a year ago.

Not only had Spurs fans developed a special connection with his predecessor Mauricio Pochettino but given Mourinho’s Chelsea past and his reputation for a pragmatic style of play, it did not appear to be a particularly good fit for some at the time.

However, a year into his job, the 57-year-old seems to have won over the vast majority of the fan base, according to a poll of Spurs fans conducted by The Athletic.

The results revealed that a huge 86 per cent of respondents believe hiring Mourinho a year ago was the right call and 74.2 per cent think sacking Pochettino was ultimately the correct decision.

As many as 82.4 per cent of respondents believe Spurs are more likely to win a trophy now than they were under the leadership of Pochettino.

A whopping 94.3 per cent approve of the job the Tottenham boss is currently doing, with 62.4 per cent believing he is doing ‘a good job’, and 31.9 per cent be living he’s doing ‘a very good job’.

Similarly, an astounding 92.5 per cent of supporters find him more likeable now than when he took the job twelve months ago.

So, it is fair to say that the results of the poll pretty comprehensively suggest that Mourinho has won the hearts and minds of the Tottenham faithful.
