‘Take the handbrake off’ – Lescott predicts Spurs vs Newcastle score

Joleon Lescott expects Newcastle United to push Tottenham close on Sunday but backed the Lilywhites to edge out the Magpies.

Antonio Conte will be looking for a response from his side when they step out on the pitch at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday, with the Lilywhites coming off their worst performance of the season on Wednesday.

The Italian is expected to recall Ryan Sessegnon into the starting lineup at left wing-back in place of Ivan Perisic but Dejan Kulusevski remains out as he continues to recover from his hamstring problem (Evening Standard).

Conte suggested in his pre-match press conference that Lucas Moura is not fit to start the game against Newcastle, and hinted that he might stick to a 3-5-2 (Football.London).

Tottenham have a perfect home record until this point in the season and Lescott believes home advantage will the difference for the North Londoners against Eddie Howe’s men.

The former Manchester City defender told LiveScore: “Tottenham’s performance level was once again disappointing but the result didn’t get them out of jail against Manchester United in midweek.

“I would like to see Spurs take the handbrake off from the start rather than playing it safe because Newcastle carry a real threat going forward.

“Eddie Howe’s side will run them close but I think home advantage may just prove pivotal.”

Prediction: Tottenham 2-1 Newcastle.

Spurs Web Opinion

Nothing less than a convincing performance and win will be acceptable on the back of the shambles of a display at Old Trafford. However, Newcastle are no slouches and will certainly be difficult to break down tomorrow. An early goal will certainly help the nerves of the home crowd.
