Team News: Conte gives positive Romero news – Updates on three other injured players

Antonio Conte has provided a team news update to journalists who have been part of Tottenham Hotspur’s pre-Chelsea press conference from Hotspur Way this afternoon.

Such is the protocol, the media are informed of the availability of the Spurs squad ahead of the Carabao Cup semi-final second leg at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium tomorrow evening.

Conte’s side have it all to do if they are to book their place in the Wembley showpiece, having lost 2-0 in the first leg at Stamford Bridge after conceding two goals from their own mistakes.

Journalists are continuing to dial into the press conference via the Zoom web conferencing platform due to the Covid-19 pandemic after in-person attendance was halted following the recent outbreak at the club last month.

The Italian revealed that Cristian Romero, Steven Bergwijn, Eric Dier and Heung-min Son are out injured for the match against Chelsea tomorrow night.

However, he did add that Romero is now very close to a return, while Bergwijn should be back in training after the Chelsea game.

Conte said on Romero (Football London): “We are talking about another player that’s very close to coming back.

“Today Cristian, had a little part of a training session with us. He’s very close to coming back. We’re talking about another important player for us.

“We lost him for almost two months and I think we faced this situation in the best possible way. Cristian for sure is an important player for us.

“Despite this, the players who played showed to be good and improved. For example, Sanchez is improving a lot. Now, Cristian is very close to coming back and being available.”
