Team News: Conte provides update on Eric Dier injury and one new COVID case

Antonio Conte has provided a team news update to journalists who have been part of Tottenham Hotspur’s pre-Arsenalpress conference from Hotspur Way this afternoon.

Such is the protocol, the media are informed of the availability of the Spurs squad ahead of the North London derby which takes place at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Journalists are continuing to dial into the press conference via the Zoom web conferencing platform due to the Covid-19 pandemic after in-person attendance was halted following the recent outbreak at the club last month.

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta admitted last night there is a chance the match could be called off with the Gunners potentially having as little as 12 players available to take to the field (Daily Mail).

Tottenham, who have two games in hand on their rivals will be keen to leapfrog their opponents in the table by taking all three points.

Conte revealed that Eric Dier will miss the match due to a small muscular problem, while the club are checking on one new COVID case.

He said (Football London): “With Eric Dier, he is suffering a little muscular problem and he’s not fit for the game against Arsenal. It’s a pity we have to play these three games before the international break and then recover these important players. It’s important to recover these important players, it’s life for us these players.”

On a new COVID case, he added: “Yeah we are checking one situation.

“As you know very well we have many injuries and then there is also the Covid situation that you have to check every day and sometimes you find a surprise. We are preparing for the game against Arsenal. All teams are suffering at the moment.”
