Team News: Conte reveals Romero wanted to play this weekend even with his ‘little problem’

Antonio Conte has provided a team news update to journalists who have attended Tottenham Hotspur’s pre-Wolverhampton Wanderers press conference from Hotspur Way this afternoon.

Wolves are the visitors to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday lunchtime with Spurs looking to maintain their unbeaten start to the season.

Such is the protocol, the media are informed of the availability of the Spurs squad ahead of the clash against Bruno Lage’s side.

Football.London reported yesterday that Cristian Romero is set to miss the next three to four weeks after picking up a muscular injury during the 2-2 draw at Stamford Bridge at the weekend, while Argentine publication TyC Sports claimed the central defender is only expected to be out of action for ten days.

The 24-year-old has played every minute of Tottenham’s first two Premier League clashes against Southampton and Chelsea.

Conte has revealed that Romero is suffering from a ‘little problem’ with some pain in his abductor which is why he is not available this weekend.

The Italian boss added that it would be ‘stupid to take risks’ in this situation, even though Romero himself wanted to make himself available.

Conte said (Football London): “About Cristian, he had a little problem during the game against Chelsea in the final part of the game. It’s a little problem and after the game he started to feel a bit of pain in his adductor [muscle].

“We checked him. The player wanted to give availability but in this situation we have a lot of games to play it would be stupid to take risk. For this reason not available for Wolves.”
