Team News: ‘He was a bit sore’ – Postecoglou on Heung-min Son’s back injury

Ange Postecoglou has spoken on Heung-min Son’s injury ahead of the Newcastle United game in North London at the weekend.

Sonny started as Tottenham’s lead striker against West Ham United on Thursday night, but struggled to get into the game against a stubborn Hammers defence.

The South Korean also picked up a knock to his back in the latter stages of the game, which prevented him from finishing the 90 minutes and he looked to be in some discomfort on the bench.

Football London’s Alasdair Gold reported that Sonny took a whack on the back but still came out and did all his interviews, so hopefully it is nothing serious.

Heung-min Son himself also told Ryan Taylor that he was okay after the game, although Pedro Porro was apparently seen limping following the full-time whistle.

Heung-min Son will be assessed ahead of Sunday

When asked about the injury, Postecoglou admitted there was no update yet and ‘we will see how he is’ ahead of the Newcastle game on Sunday.

Ange said: “No update yet. We’ll see how he is. He was a bit sore after the game. There’s a couple of them, fair to say, who were a bit sore. We’ll wait to see what the outcome is in terms of Sunday but there’s nothing apart from Sonny that looks too significant.”

He added (Football London): “Pape and Richy both reported ok after the game but we won’t be getting anyone else back I don’t think before the new year.”
