Team News: Mourinho rules two out and confirms two Spurs returns

Jose Mourinho has provided a team news update to journalists who have dialled into Tottenham Hotspur’s pre-Newcastle United press conference from Hotspur Way this afternoon.

Such is the protocol, the media are informed of the availability of the Spurs squad ahead of Mourinho answering questions prior to their visit to St James’ Park for the first Premier League match following the international fixtures.

Pre-match press conferences continue to take place on the Zoom video conferencing platform after journalists can no longer attend Hotspur Way in person due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Jose Mourinho revealed that Sergio Reguilon was ready for the Newcastle game on Sunday, while Heung-min Son was back doing partial exercises with the team.

However, he did also add that both Ben Davies and Matt Doherty were out injured for the game against the Magpies.

He said (Football London): “He [Son] was injured. Trained with the team fully this morning. He did partial exercises with the team yesterday and last week didn’t train at all. This time we have Doherty and Ben Davies out. [Reguilon] is ready.”

Tottenham headed into the international break having beaten Aston Villa 2-0 on the back of one of the worst weeks in the club’s recent history following the loss to Arsenal and the Europa League exit.
