Team News: Nuno rules two Spurs players out of Thursday night match

Nuno Espirito Santo has provided a team news update to journalists who have dialled into Tottenham Hotspur’s pre-Pacos de Ferreira press conference from Hotspur Way this afternoon.

Such is the protocol, the media are informed of the availability of the Spurs squad ahead of Nunoo answering questions prior to the second leg of the Europa Conference League play-off second leg at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium tomorrow night.

Pre-match press conferences continue to take place on the Zoom video conferencing platform with journalists still not able to attend Hotspur Way in person in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic.

Tottenham are looking to overturn a 1-0 scoreline from last Thursday’s defeat in Portugal which saw Nuno hand a number of young and fringe players the opportunity to play, with very few catching the eye.

The Spurs head coach revealed that centre-back duo, Cameron Carter-Vickers and Joe Rodon would miss the match through injury, while adding that the latter is ‘much much better’.

He also touched on the topic of players being called up to their national squads ahead of the upcoming international break.

Nuno said (Football London): “Major ones are the absence of Joe and Cameron [Carter-Vickers]. Joe is not fit for tomorrow. He is much much better but he is not going to join us tomorrow.

“We have to be aware of the situation so a lot of things have been going on with players who are going to join national teams.

“I don’t think Joe will be but let’s wait and see. For the first games for sure he will not be fit.

“Like the cases with our South American players – due to the circumstances there is a big issue with that as well.”
