Team News: One ruled out, one injury doubt for Spurs ahead of Everton match

Tottenham Hotspur have provided team news update following Jose Mourinho’s pre-Everton press conference from Hotspur Way this afternoon.

Such is the protocol since the coronavirus pandemic, the media are informed of the availability of the Spurs squad ahead of Mourinho answering questions prior to the visit of the Toffees in the Premier League opener on Sunday afternoon.

This is the first pre-match press conference of the new campaign to take place on the Zoom video conferencing platform with journalists no longer able to attend the Tottenham training ground in person.

The club have confirmed that Japhet Tanganga misses out due to a thigh injury while Giovani Lo Celso, who has not featured in any of the club’s pre-season friendlies is considered a doubt.

A late decision will be made on the midfielder’s fitness due to a hamstring issue.

Tottenham are undefeated in their last 15 matches against Everton in all competitions and have won their last four matches in a row at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Mourinho told the official Spurs site: “The players have come back without injury, which is a very positive thing, and we are together for two training session and we start the season,” said Jose. “The majority of the team, apart from three, know each other well for quite a long time, and the fact I’ve been with them for the past 10 months makes it easier for me, because in this moment, I don’t need to adapt and the players don’t need to adapt to me, because we know each other already, so I think we are ready.”
