Team News: Postecoglou reports good news on Johnson and Bentancur

Ange Postecoglou has provided a team news update ahead of Monday’s match against Fulham during this afternoon’s press conference at Hotspur Way.

Tottenham face Fulham, who handed the North Londoners their only defeat of the current campaign under the Australian which came in the Carabao Cup second round back in late August when a heavily-changed Spurs side crashed out of the competition following a penalty shoot-out.

Postecoglou’s men headed into the international break at the top of the Premier League table and with two further derbies to follow against Crystal Palace and Chelsea, Spurs will certainly want to maintain their recent impressive run of form when they face Fulham.

Many Spurs fans have been concerned about the potential availability of Heung-min Son and Cristian Romero following their respective international duty.

Son has been battling a groin injury and looked in pain while playing for South Korea, while Romero took a knock to his right ankle during the match between Argentina and Peru.

Such is the protocol, the media are informed of the availability of the Spurs squad ahead of the clash against Marco Silva’s side.

Postecoglou revealed that there are no issues around any of the players returning from international duty, including Romero and Son. He also added that Brennan Johnson has been training for a couple of weeks now and they ‘will see’ how things look for Monday.

For the longer-term absentees, Bentancur and Bryan Gil are now starting to fully integrate with the team, although it sounds like they will not be rushed back. Sessegnon, meanwhile, is still a long way off a return.

He said (Tottenham): “We have no issues around availability for Monday at this stage. We have a couple more days so it helps we have a Monday night game and there are no issues around those coming back.

“Brennan’s had a good couple of weeks training. The flip side of players going away is that we can work with the ones that are here so Brennan and Bryan were players that haven’t played a lot of football so far have progressed well through the international break – we’ll see how they go on Monday night in Brennan’s case. It was a really solid block of training for those guys.

“Sess is still a fair bit of time away, he’s longer term. Rodrigo has been training, he’s now fully integrated into the group which is great. He’s missed a lot of football so we’re measured in how we re-introduce him but the more he trains with the lads he’ll feel more like himself and it’ll be good to get him back amongst it.”
