Villarreal goalkeeper Geronimo Rulli has described on-loan Tottenham midfielder Giovani Lo Celso as one of the top players in the world.
Lo Celso was one of three players to leave Spurs on loan during transfer deadline day along with Tanguy Ndombele and Bryan Gil, who completed temporary moves to Lyon and Valencia respectively.
Before his move back to Spain, reports indicated that Antonio Conte was frustrated by Lo Celso’s inability to follow instructions to the level required (The Independent).
The Argentine made his debut for the Yellow Submarine in their 2-0 win over his former club Real Betis on Sunday, coming off the bench in the 77th minute.
During his spell at El Madrigal, the 25-year-old will be hoping to recapture the kind of form he showed during his solitary season in La Liga back in 2018/19, which made him one of the hottest properties in Europe at the time.
Rulli is certainly not in doubt over the quality that his compatriot possesses, insisting the on-loan Tottenham can be a pivotal player for Unai Emery’s side.
The Argentine goalkeeper told Super Deporte about Lo Celso: “He gives us a plus as a team, he helps us improve and I don’t discover anything by saying that he is a top player in the world.

“I know him well as a player and a person, so I hope he does very well.”

Tottenham will be hoping that Lo Celso does well on his return to La Liga so that his price will be bumped up in the summer transfer window. That is perhaps the main reason that Spurs decided to loan the Argentine as well as Ndombele.
While Conte would not have likely minded keeping Lo Celso around as a squad player, the midfielder’s value would have only come down even further if he had continued playing a bit-part role at Spurs in the second half of the season.
