Emerson Royal has admitted he has heard about Atletico Madrid’s rumoured interest in signing him this summer.
Emerson has struggled to adapt to the right wing-back role since Antonio Conte arrived at Spurs in November.
Over recent weeks, the Italian has preferred Matt Doherty over the Brazilian in the role, and the Republic of Ireland international has certainly repaid the manager’s faith, contributing regularly in the final third.
According to reports, Conte wants to upgrade at right wing-back this summer and Spurs could decide to cash in on Emerson just 12 months after signing him (The Sun).
It has been suggested that a return to La Liga could be on the cards for the 23-year-old, with Atletico Madrid said to be considering a move for the former Real Betis man (Marca).
Emerson has now claimed that while he is aware of the reported interest from Colchoneros, he remains focused on doing well for the Spurs.
When asked about the speculation linking him with Diego Simeone’s side, the Brazilian international told Cadena SER program Que t’hi jugues: “Yes, it has come to me that Atlético has been interested in me.
“But now I’m in a good moment at Tottenham, I don’t know what will happen in the future. I like that the teams are watching my football.”

I would be extremely surprised if Emerson is still at Spurs next season. I believe we are guaranteed to sign a new right wing-back this summer and as things stand, Matt Doherty is far more likely to stay as a backup than Emerson is, given the 30-year-old’s performances over the last two months.
