‘Tearing his hair out’ – Pundit claims Mourinho will be frustrated with Spurs star

Former Coventry City striker, Noel Whelan has said that Jose Mourinho will be tearing his hair out at some of the mistakes Davinson Sanchez made in the 2-2 draw against Newcastle.

All of Tottenham’s senior centre-backs have been guilty of making some poor individual errors this season.

A few months ago, Sanchez seemed like he would struggle to get any game time but the Colombian has been able to battle his way back into the team, partly owing to the sub-par performances of Eric Dier and Toby Alderweireld.

The 24-year-old has started alongside Joe Rodon in the heart of the Spurs defence in the club’s last two Premier League games.

However, his performance at St James’ Park left a lot to be desired as Sanchez looked extremely shaky in one vs one situations and kept giving the ball away.

Whelan believes that Mourinho would have been fuming at the manner in which his side conceded the two goals.

The pundit told Football Insider: “Sanchez hasn’t looked great for a while now.

“We’re talking about fine margins and you look back on goals they concede when he’s in the side and it’s always little mistakes that cost them.

“The next goal at 2-1 up against Newcastle would have killed them off but these little mistakes just kept giving them hope.

“Jose Mourinho will have been very disappointed to have kept giving Newcastle that hope. That’s not what you need when you’re meant to be going for Europe, is it?

“He’ll be tearing his hair out when he watches the goals they conceded. Schoolboy mistakes, especially from Sanchez. Shocking stuff.”

Spurs Web Opinion

While Sanchez seems to be above both Alderweireld and Dier in the pecking order, I still think the Colombian is the most likely to be sold out of the three in the summer. While the 24-year-old has always possessed some very good attributes, he has not developed the way the club would have hoped for over the last four years.
