Former Tottenham Hotspur striker Teddy Sheringham has urged the club to swoop to sign Harry Maguire from Manchester United this summer.
Spurs struggled defensively last season and conceded a whopping 63 goals in the Premier League campaign. It’s no wonder then, that Ange Postecoglou has made signing a new centre-half a priority this summer (90 Min).
As it stands, both Edmond Tapsoba and Micky van de Ven appear to be the top targets for Tottenham. The North London club apparently used data analysis to identify the Bundesliga pair as the perfect fit for the system at Spurs (Football.London).
Aside from Tapsoba and van de Ven, the Lilywhites have also been linked with Manchester United outcast Harry Maguire.
The England international, recently stripped of the captaincy at Old Trafford, is reportedly wanted by Tottenham and three other Premier League clubs (The Sun).
Spurs should sign Harry Maguire, Sheringham says
Whether Spurs will pursue a move for Maguire or not remains to be seen, but a man who has played for both Tottenham and Manchester United thinks the defender should make the move.
Teddy Sheringham told Lord Ping: “Harry Maguire would be an excellent option for Tottenham. Whenever you watch Maguire play for England, he rarely lets anyone down. He is a solid, proven professional that is well-suited for the Premier League.
“He has had a tough time at Manchester United – he took a lot of flak and was always the fall guy. I actually think that those experiences at United will hold him in good stead and could push him on to have a brilliant end to his career.
“He will have plenty to prove and I think he would be a great signing for Tottenham.
“I really think he has been hung out to dry at Manchester United. If I think back to any of the centre-backs that I played with, I’m not sure they would have been able to cope with the amount that Harry Maguire has over the last few years.”

Harry Maguire has been much maligned at Manchester United, but he still has a lot to offer. He has experience at the very top level of the game and could be a valuable asset to Tottenham.
