‘Tell me why they can’t’ – Pundit challenges people to rule Spurs out of title race

Former Blackburn midfielder, Robbie Savage has admitted on social media that he is optimistic about Tottenham’s chances of winning the Premier League title this season.

Very few pundits even gave Tottenham a chance of finishing in the top four at the start of the season but some have started to reconsider their predictions after the blistering start Jose Mourinho’s side have made.

There were some question marks after Tottenham’s 3-3 draw against West Ham over whether the North Londoners were good enough defensively to challenge for the title.

Spurs have answered their critics with three brilliant defensive displays in their last three matches against Burnley, Brighton and West Brom, in which they have conceded just once.

Their win at The Hawthorns on Sunday temporarily pushed the Lilywhites to the top of the table, before Leicester beat Wolves to usurp Spurs from the summit of the standings.

Savage revealed that Chris Sutton laughed at his suggestion that Spurs can win the league and questioned the former Celtic man as to why they cannot.

The pundit also admitted after Manchester City’s draw with Liverpool on Sunday night that he can see Mourinho’s men pipping both of last season’s top two to the title.

Savage told BBC Radio 5 Live at 18:21 on 08/11/2020 (as quoted by The BBC): “First half you’re thinking these are the two best teams (Manchester City and Liverpool) in the country, second half you’re thinking can Leicester or Spurs win the league ahead of these two?”
