Ten lessons to learn –

As I always say, you play an under strength team, you get an under strength performance.

4-4-2 doesn’t work with those players. A defensive line higher than Pete Doherty doesn’t work with those players, especially that midfield.

One man team? Barry Gale. Should’ve brought him on with a beard and wig and made him play with his right foot.

Dembele. We’re not a one-man team and least when we play him down the middle we’re not.

Lennon. We’re not a two man team. How we miss him when he’s hamstrung. It should be a priority to clone him. He’ll be injured again before the end of the season and we’ll struggle without him.

Gallas will only play a handful more games for us at most. A handful too many perhaps?

Holtby. Either we’ve not bought the finished article or he’s waiting for the others to catch up.

Adebayor & Defoe. A referee who would’ve booked the bloke with the blindfold for simulation after a firing squad had done their work didn’t help the latter but even so, taking into account that both of these are on their way back from injury, they both played with a confidence, attitude and body language we should be concerned about. They would be playing their way out of the team if we had any other forwards.

Fancy dress and comedy hair. A gimp hat in defence, Zorro as sub and Palacio’s ridiculous ponytail are what made me always think we’d win. Adebayor’s ridge of fluff and Holtby’s quiff in a wind tunnel gave me pause, but I knew.

Andre Villas-Boas picked a strong side but not one as strong as he could’ve. The team that wins this competition won’t have one of those air-pumped big blow up men you see on industrial estates in Enfield in goal.
