‘Thank God’ – Spurs player reveals he is pleased that he rejected Barcelona approach

Tottenham defender, Davinson Sanchez, has revealed that he rejected an offer from Barcelona before he joined Ajax in the summer of 2016.

For someone so young, Sanchez already boasts tremendous experience at the top level, having played a considerable amount of Premier League, Eredivisie, and European football.

The Columbian international has seen his career trajectory accelerate after he left Atletico Nacional to join Ajax four years ago.

After an impressive first season at the Eredivisie giants, he was snapped by Tottenham and quickly became an important member within the side.

He has since starred in a World Cup campaign for his country and evolved into one of the brightest young centre-backs in the Premier League.

However, the Spurs man revealed that things could have turned out so differently for him had he chosen to go to Barcelona instead.

Sanchez insisted that he was thankful that he rejected the Catalans’ offer as it wouldn’t have been the right time for him to move.

When asked about Barcelona’s offer in an interview on Instagram Live with Blog Verdolaga (as relayed by Golombianos), the centre half said: “It was a moment where a decision can go well or badly but thank God I knew how to wait, I knew how to be patient, to know what was best for my career.

“The conditions in which I’d go didn’t suit me very much.”

Spurs Web Opinion

I feel Davinson Sanchez’s performances this season have gone a bit under the radar among Spurs fans. He has managed to cut out the occasional lapses in concentration that he suffered from during his first two seasons at the club. If he improves his passing and his ability on the ball, he will be up there with the best in the world.
