‘Thanks Daniel’ – Liverpool legend mocks Tottenham over failed transfer deal

Jamie Carragher has aimed a dig at Tottenham Hotspur’s failed pursuit of Luis Diaz after the Colombian helped Liverpool to victory at Brighton.

The January signing from Porto bravely headed Jurgen Klopp’s side into a first half lead, beating Brighton’s keeper Robert Sanchez to Joel Matip’s through ball and was on the receiving end of a heavy collison form the Seagulls player in the process.

Liverpool skipper Jordan Henderson described the 25-year-old’s impact at the Amex Stadium as ‘top class’ in an interview with BT Sport after the final whistle.

Carragher could not resist taking to Twitter to rub salt into the wounds of Tottenham fans by thanking chairman Daniel Levy’s pursuit to force the Anfield outfit into signing Diaz in the January transfer window.

Levy was said to have threatened to report Liverpool’s recruitment staff to club owners FSG after they beat Tottenham in the race to land the Porto man (Telegraph).

The Athletic claimed last month that Tottenham had a signed agreement in place and also agreed to personal terms with Diaz, only for super-agent Jorge Mendes to become involved in the deal which allowed Liverpool to steal the playmaker from under their noses.

Diaz has had an impressive start at Liverpool and was exactly the type of player we needed to take the game by the scruff of its neck.

Yet again Tottenham have proven to be an embarrassment when it comes to getting deals over the line and he joins an illustrious list of ‘nearly’ signings including the likes of Jack Grealish, Paulo Dybala, Eden Hazard, Joao Moutinho and Willian.
