‘That was quick’ – Wayne Rooney sends message to Harry Kane after England record

Wayne Rooney has taken to social media to hail Harry Kane after the Tottenham striker usurped his record to become England’s all-time leading goalscorer.

Kane was on the pitch when Rooney broke Bobby Charlton’s record back in 2015 and the Tottenham man admitted after the game that he was proud to be able to share the moment with the Man Utd legend (Sky Sports).

Little did the striker know that the record would be his merely eight years later.

The Tottenham man converted from the penalty spot at the end of the first half against Italy, with the Three Lions running out 2-1 winner in Naples.

The goal was the 29-year-old’s 54th strike in an England shirt and the fact that he has reached the milestone in 39 matches fewer than Rooney shows just how prolific he has been for his country.

Rooney admitted that he did not expect Kane to break the record as quickly as he has done.

I expect Kane to continue playing at the top level into his mid-thirties.

So, the likelihood is that he will shatter the record and end his career with over 80 goals for his country, which is a record that is likely to stand for a long time.
