‘That’s a big compliment I think’ – Erik Ten Hag on Antonio Conte at Spurs

Erik Ten Hag has spoken in glowing terms about Antonio Conte, admitting that the Italian has put his own distinct mark on this current Tottenham side.

Tottenham have had a fabulous start to the season, currently sitting with 23 points – the most they have ever accumulated in the Premier League era in their first ten games.

The Lilywhites also sit at the top of their Champions League group and look on course to seal their passage into the knockout stages.

However, Spurs have come under criticism from some quarters for their style of play, with many pundits continuing to question if the North Londoners can sustain their current run of results playing the same way that they are (ESPN FC).

Tottenham’s trip to Old Trafford this evening will certainly be a test of their credentials to keep pace with the likes of Manchester City at the top of the table.

Ahead of the clash, Ten Hag has complimented his opposite number for the team he has built at Spurs.

The Man Utd boss told Manchester Evening News: “He’s a fabulous manager, winning titles, trophies in the Premier League, Italy and you can really see his signature in the match from his team. That’s a big compliment I think.”

Spurs Web Opinion

It will be interesting to see if Ten Hag sets Man Utd up to commit bodies forward and take the game to Tottenham. I would be surprised if he did that as he will be well aware that it will play into Spurs’ hands.

The Man Utd boss has shown already in his short tenure at Old Trafford that he is prepared to be pragmatic and adapt his game plan depending on the opposition. So, it could be an interesting tactical battle this evening.
