‘That’s nonsense’ – Ex-Spurs player hits out at Mourinho’s comments after Chelsea loss

Former Tottenham player, Garth Crooks, has blasted Jose Mourinho for his comments following the club’s 2-1 defeat to Chelsea on Saturday.

The away side failed to put together consistent attacks of any substance throughout the ninety minutes and were happy to sit back and defend deep for the majority of the encounter.

Even after Chelsea sat off Spurs after going 2-0 up, the Lilywhites looked completely lacking in ideas when in possession.

Spurs went into the game with Harry Kane and Son Heung-min both out with injuries and Mourinho insisted after the match that he didn’t have enough attacking options to make a better fist of the encounter (Football.London).

Crooks, however, rejects the assertion that Spurs didn’t have the goalscoring threats needed to hurt Chelsea on Saturday.

He claimed that with the likes of Dele Alli and Lucas Moura, Spurs had the players to trouble Frank Lampard’s side.

Responding to the Tottenham boss’ comments after the game, Crooks told BBC’s Final Score: “He has people who can score goals. Moura can score goals. Dele Alli can score goals. They were both on the pitch against Chelsea.

“Let’s not kid ourselves. We cannot start feeling sorry for ourselves and thinking Spurs are beat before they even go onto the pitch because they haven’t got Kane or Son.

“That’s nonsense! They have got enough to score goals.”

Spurs Web Opinion

I don’t blame Jose for setting us up the way he did against Chelsea given the injuries we had and the fact that we had two fewer days to prepare for the game. However, I did feel he could have been a little bit more proactive with his substitutions as he waited too long before bringing the likes of Erik Lamela and Dele Alli on.
