‘That’s not the way it works’ – Dele asks Spurs fans for patience under Nuno

Dele Alli has urged Tottenham fans to continue to get behind the team and help them through this tricky phase they are in.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s reign has not started in the manner the club would have hoped for, with the Lilywhites currently sitting eleventh in the Premier League table, having lost their last three league games in a row.

The team needed to respond in the Europa Conference League clash against NS Mura and they certainly did that, overcoming the Slovenian side 5-1 yesterday.

Speaking after the game, an emotional Alli insisted that the transition under the new regime was always going to take time, and vowed to continue working hard. The 25-year-old also called on the Spurs faithful to continue backing the team.

This comes off the back of consecutive matches in which Dele Alli has been hauled off early, at half-time in the 3-1 North London Derby defeat and just before the 60-minute mark last night.

After the game, Dele Alli said: “The transition from last season, if anyone thought it would be magical and just all slot into place, that’s not the way it works. It’s not going to be, click the fingers and we’re back to where we want to be. It’s a process.”

He added: “We’re trying to improve. Sometimes things take time. Hopefully not too much time, we know that, but we want the fans to stick behind us. We’re going to keep working, keep fighting. We’re building something.”

Spurs fans will do well to remember that Pochettino did not have the best of starts at Tottenham and it took a while before we saw the team imbibing the Argentine’s methods. So, Nuno certainly deserves a few months to get his ideas across.
