‘Not happening’ – Paul Merson makes Spurs admission after Arsenal defeat

Paul Merson believes Arsenal will finish below Tottenham in the Premier League this season, just three games into the campaign.

Mikel Arteta’s side have endured a miserable start to the season and sit rock bottom of the table with no points without a single goal scored.

Arsenal have just come off the back of a 5-0 thumping to Manchester City, which also saw Granit Xhaka sent off in the first half.

It is the complete opposite for Nuno Espirito Santo’s Spurs though, who have recorded maximum points so far and head into the first international break as the Premier League leaders.

Nuno has guided Spurs to three consecutive 1-0 victories, which is the first time in the club’s history it has won its opening three games without conceding a goal.

Before the new season began, former Arsenal midfielder Merson believed the Gunners would finish above their North London rivals, but he has seemingly changed his mind on that prediction already.

Speaking on Sky Sports’ Soccer Saturday panel following Arsenal’s drubbing at the Etihad Stadium, he said: “I looked at it this season, and I thought at least Arsenal are going to finish above Tottenham.

“That’s not now happening. Do you know what I mean? Now I have got to look at Norwich.”

Spurs Web Opinion

While Spurs fans will be loving what they are seeing currently, it is important not to get carried away too early. Similarly, it was a very good start last season, but the season quickly fizzled out under Jose Mourinho. It is a long way to go still, and hopefully, Nuno will keep the squad firmly planted on the ground.
