“The big mistake was to sign for Tottenham”

Adel Taarabt has claimed he made a “big mistake” by joining Tottenham Hotspur rather than Arsenal.

The Moroccan moved to White Hart Lane for £3million from Lens in January 2007 and has failed to make any sort of impact during his time at Spurs.  The 20-year-old, currently on loan at QPR claims that he dislikes the English style of football and is hoping for a move to Spain.

‘I was going to go to Arsenal and Comolli was there with [Arsene] Wenger,’ said Taarabt.

‘But he went to Tottenham so I went there. That was a big mistake for me. My friends in England – like Armand Traore and Abou Diaby at Arsenal – told me Tottenham were not the right fit for me.

‘The big mistake was to sign for Tottenham and not go to another club when I first came over.’

‘England is not for me, I think La Liga is the best league for me,’ he added.

‘[I don’t like] how they play in England, I like to play football. I look at teams like Bolton, Stoke or Wolves and say: ‘There is just no point for me’. I hate that style of football.’

‘I have one more year on my contract this season and I hope that Tottenham make a deal in the summer. If not, I will go for free next summer,’ he continued.

‘I hope to be playing for one of the top four in Spain next season – Real Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia or Sevilla.

‘I have contact with good teams and I know that they want me. Now I just have to hope they can agree a deal with Tottenham.’

Have something to tell us about this article?

  1. Bitter comments aren’t right for this one. The boy is a genius, and has been failed by successive Spurs managers. Ronaldo was the same before he went to United, but Ferguson taught him to pass the ball.

  2. You may have done better if you could’ve learnt to pass pal! I don’t think the top 4 clubs in La Liga will come calling anyday soon either. You have potential but it seems you also have attitude problems.

  3. should keep your mouth shut pal….you would of been sold already if you was at the scum…..play your game and if you was that good you would not be near the bottom of the championship…just cos you can do a few naff step over dont make you a complete player..naff off to spain your crap….and last time i looked football was a team game adel not a team player

  4. The boy might have a point, he’s better than some being given the opportunity at the moment, no point being bitter about him. Hope he stays but good luck if he goes………..COYS

  5. “Any player coming to Spurs whether he’s a big signing or just a ground staff boy must be dedicated to the game and to the club. He must be prepared to work at his game. He must never be satisfied with his last performance, and he must hate losing.”

  6. Stratty: Disagree that he's been failed by successive managers. When given opportunities he's been mainly infuriating and clumsy. You can't keep carrying a player who's a liability. He's not exactly been a great success at QPR so how can he expect to make the Spurs side?

  7. what a mug, he wouldn't be playing in the arsenal team if he had signed for them, if he was good enough for the prem he wouldn't be at qpr on loan, all the best players want to play in england, and if you cant cut it here, then go be a sub in la liga, which isn;t much different from the scottish league with only 2 teams ever having a look in, and he wont be going to real or barca will he, I hope we bring him back and let him rot until his contract expires. Next zibane, no, you are not.
