Antonio Conte has insisted that Tottenham are very aware of the importance of signing good players in the January transfer window, although his mind is not on the new year quite yet.
Tottenham arguably only made the top four and subsequent Champions League football last season because of the business they completed in the winter window.
Spurs signed Dejan Kulusevski and Rodrigo Bentancur from Juventus, both of whom slotted into the first team and contributed goal contributions galore over the second half of the season.
Conte was, therefore, asked in his press conference today whether he would speak to Daniel Levy and Fabio Paratici about boosting the squad again this coming January.
However, while outlining the importance of adding quality in the January window, Conte insisted they would have to wait and see, with his primary focus being on finishing positively ahead of the World Cup next month.
He said (Football London): “I think the club understand very well the importance of bringing in important players, good players, in January. I’m not the person who has to explain this to my club.
“If you ask me in January what happens when we have to play many other games, we will have to try to do our best. I repeat we have to take this big achievement of going to the next round tomorrow and take this opportunity to do it.
“We want to finish in the best possible way before the World Cup. My priority now is not January but to finish in the best possible way before the World Cup.”
Spurs Web Opinion:
I expect most clubs to be more active than usual this January due to the likelihood of injuries and fatigue during the unique mid-season World Cup. Tottenham will probably add one to three new faces in January, if I had to predict.
