‘The doctors’ – Conte provides update on Matt Doherty injury in 4-0 Spurs win

Antonio Conte has revealed that the Tottenham doctors will check on Matt Doherty tomorrow at Hotspur Way, but the Spurs boss hopes the injury is ‘nothing serious’.

This comes after the Irishman was forced off at the 20-minute mark in the 4-0 win over Aston Villa in the Premier League this evening.

Doherty was covering at left-wing-back for the second week in a row, with Sergio Reguilon and Ryan Sessegnon both returning to the bench.

However, the Spurs star was on the wrong end of a tough tackle from Matty Cash early in the first half and, despite trying to shake it off, he was forced to retire from the game.

Doherty was seen taking painkillers and getting medical attention from the Tottenham team, but it was not enough to keep him on the pitch and Reguilon was introduced.

Dan Kilpatrick later revealed that Doherty was seen leaving Villa Park with a brace on his right knee.

Conte said (Football London): “I hope nothing serious. The doctors are going to check on him tomorrow.

“I hope nothing serious because he wanted to continue to play and then he later wanted to come out. I hope nothing serious because he’s now an important player for us.”

Spurs Web Opinion:

Doherty had finally found his feet in the Tottenham team and was forging a great partnership with Dejan Kulusevski on the right. It would be a real shame and a big blow if he was to face a period on the sidelines now.
