‘The dream of my entire life’ – Former Spurs manager opens up on his time in N17

Juande Ramos has been reflecting on his career as a football manager, and insisted his time in charge of Tottenham Hotspur was a ‘dream,’ despite not quite achieving his goals in the Premier League.

Spurs have had many managers since the turn of the millennium. Some have been relatively successful, some have been incredibly popular, and some have not enjoyed either success or popularity.

Juande Ramos certainly enjoyed some success at Spurs. The Spaniard may have lasted only one year and one day in his role as Tottenham boss, taking charge of just 54 matches for the Lilywhites between 2007 and 2008, but he did win the League Cup for the club.

He was dismissed in October 2008, eight months after that triumph, to be replaced by Harry Redknapp. Since then, Ramos has coached Real Madrid, CSKA Moscow, Dnipro, and Malaga, but has been out of work since 2016.

Ramos has fond memories of Tottenham Hotspur

Giving an interview in his native Spain (via MSN), Ramos had nothing but nice things to say about his time at Spurs.

He said: “Sportingly, the change was very important, I was going to a league, a competition, the Premier League, which I was very excited about… I did it at the time and I would do it again now. But things happen because they happen.

“It was the right time. In no single moment have I regretted having done it… Going to a club like Tottenham and a competition like the Premier League… Come on, the dream of my entire life. Living that experience is invaluable.

“I would have liked to spend more time [at Spurs] because it is an entity that has tremendous potential to compete with the best in England… I was left as an unfinished work because at that time it was a limited company that thought much more about economics than about sports.”

Spurs Web Opinion

It’s quite strange thinking about Juande Ramos being the last manager to deliver a trophy for Tottenham, as aside from that League Cup victory, I find it hard to remember much else about his reign. Good guy though, and it’s nice to know he enjoyed it at Spurs.
