‘The end’ – Agent confirms Tottenham player’s transfer has broken down

Davinson Sanchez’s agent has revealed the player will not be joining Spartak Moscow this summer, despite Tottenham Hotspur accepting an offer from the Russian side.

The 2022/23 campaign was not a positive one for Davinson Sanchez, who fell foul of the Tottenham supporters and became the main scapegoat for some of his side’s worst defeats last term.

Ange Postecoglou has made it clear that he wants to sign a new centre-back position this summer (90 Min) and the Australian is also expected to oversee a mass clearout of his squad, too (Telegraph).

Reports have suggested Sanchez will be one of those players to leave Spurs. A range of speculation has linked the Colombian with a whole host of clubs, including PSV Eindhoven (Voetbal International), Villarreal (Relevo), Galatasaray (Sporx), and Spartak Moscow (Sport Express).

Regardless of which club Sanchez ends up at this summer, it is believed the 27-year-old will finalise a move away from Spurs in the ‘coming weeks’ (Express).

Sanchez is not going to Spartak Moscow

It was recently reported that an offer from Spartak Moscow worth £13m had been accepted by Spurs, but it was believed Sanchez himself had reservations about joining the club (The Athletic).

Now, Sanchez’s own agent has confirmed his client will not be moving to Russia this summer. Fernando Villarreal told Euro Football Russia: “Yes, indeed, this is the end of the negotiations.”

The Guardian recently revealed the Premier League would strongly advise its teams not to do business with Russian clubs due to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.

It is unclear whether this formed part of Sanchez’s decision to decline the move to Spartak.

Spurs Web Opinion

This feels like a wise decision from Sanchez and his representatives. Russian teams cannot compete in European competitions for a start, not to mention the unsavoury politics and culture of the whole country right now. Sanchez has plenty of other options anyway, without having to move to such a volatile nation.
