Tottenham Hotspur have been fined by the FA, who have hit the North London club with a curious charge for an incident that happened in their 4-1 win over West Ham.

Altercation between Tottenham and West Ham players

The charge is regarding the pushing and shoving between the two sets of players in the 82nd minute of the game after Mohammed Kudus kicked out at Micky van de Ven.

Both sets of players got in each other’s faces, with the Spurs players angered by Kudus’ antics. The West Ham man first kicked Van de Ven when he was on the ground before slapping the Dutchman, and later shoving Pape Sarr in the face.

VAR intervened to ask the referee to re-watch the incidents on the touchline monitor, leaving him with no choice but to send the Ghana international off.

Tottenham hit with FA charge

The FA have now confirmed that Spurs have been hit with a fine of £20,000 for their players’ part in the incident.

English football’s governing body charged the Lilywhites of “failing to ensure their players didn’t behave in an improper and or/provocative way”. They confirmed that Spurs had admitted to the charge and accepted the penalty.

Tottenham have the right to feel hard done by

Spurs players will feel that they actually kept their cool despite being on the receiving end of some completely unhinged behaviour on the part of Kudus.

They had to stand up for their teammates and the likes of Sarr and Van de Ven did well not to respond to Kudus’ provocations.

However, this sort of fine is standard procedure when incidents like this occur and Spurs have to take it on the chin.
