‘The fans deserve more’ – Heung-min Son apologetic to Spurs supporters

Speaking to the Daily Mail, Heung-min Son has shared his thoughts on Tottenham Hotspur’s 4-1 defeat against Leicester City at the weekend and insisted his team must show massive improvement in the next game to make amends.

Tottenham’s inconsistency is perfectly and frustratingly summarised by the fact they beat reigning champions Manchester City last weekend, but then collapsed to a humiliating defeat at Leicester, a team in the lower half of the table.

Rodrigo Bentancur had given Spurs the lead early on at the King Power stadium, but Leicester fought back quickly and ruthlessly. It’s a defeat which leaves Spurs losing ground on the top four and with big questions to be asked ahead of the next game.

Tottenham face AC Milan in the Champions League round of 16 tomorrow, and the players are expected to show huge improvements to put the memory of the latest embarrassing defeat behind them.

Son did not hold back in discussing this matter when looking ahead to the Champions League tie. He said: “I wouldn’t say we are confident, but words are not enough. We just have to go there and show on the pitch, that’s the most important thing.”

“I can stand here and speak all day but the most important thing is on the pitch. We have to be as a unit and we have to be all together in the same way. Of course, it will be really tough, don’t get me wrong. We have to be more than ready, more than 100 per cent.

On the process of preparing for the upcoming game in Milan, Son added: “We have only a few more days so we have to recover well, eat well, sleep well and go there and give it absolutely everything to achieve our aim.

“You learn more in a bad performance than in a good one. The performance was really poor and the fans deserve more than they received.

“We are playing in the Champions League, this was everyone’s dream and we wanted to be in this position last year.

“This could be the most important game because it’s a knockout stage so we have to bounce back stronger than ever. This will be a very important game. This could be the biggest lesson for us and this lesson should not be happening in Milan.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Sonny is right, it’s not enough for players to just say they will do better, because we hear that all the time. We need to see a proper reaction against Milan and see the players stepping up and starting to put things right.
