‘The game against Wolves was completely unfair’ – Pochettino

Tottenham Hotspur ended their 2018 with a shock, suffering a disappointing loss at home to newly-promoted Wolves.

Spurs led the game going into half time thanks to a superb Harry Kane strike, but looked like a different side in the second half.

The crispness vanished from Tottenham’s game, replaced by lethargy, fatigue, and laziness.

Due to this drop in concentration, Spurs went on to concede three goals in the space of fifteen minutes, as Wolves snatched away all three points.

This could not have come at a worse time either, as Tottenham were just trying to put the squeeze on Liverpool at the top of the table.

Thankfully, Spurs got their 2019 off to the perfect start with a simple 3-0 win away to Cardiff, a result that was never in doubt after Kane’s goal in the opening few minutes.

Looking back on the Wolves game, Pochettino still believes it was unfair how his side lost, but put it down to a lack of discipline.

Poch said (Football London): “Always it’s important. When you assess the game against Wolves it was completely unfair. I think we played much, much better than Wolves but I think we dropped in our concentration in the last 20 minutes and we conceded three goals. When you see the data that we ran more than them, you say no, it wasn’t a problem that we were tired, just a concentration problem. A little bit about discipline, offensive and defensive. It’s terrible when a team like us didn’t get a shot on target in the second half, because we showed a lack of discipline, in both ways. Today so pleased because from the beginning the team showed massive energy. I think that is the team we want and expect to see and perform on the pitch.”
