The Spurs games Emerson Royal could miss following red card

Emerson Royal is expected to be suspended for three matches after being sent off in the North London derby on Saturday.

Emerson has started all but one of the ten matches that Tottenham have played across all competitions this season, with the Brazilian earning Antonio Conte’s praise for his performances last month (Football London).

However, the 23-year-old had an afternoon to forget at the Emirates Stadium as he got a straight red card just past the hour mark after a senseless studs-up challenge on compatriot Gabriel Martinelli.

Emerson’s sending-off essentially ended the game as a contest as Tottenham went into damage limitation mode, with the home side eventually ending up 3-1 winners.

FourFourTwo report that the former Real Betis star is expected to miss the next three games. If the Brazilian is handed a three-match suspension, here are the matches that he will miss:

Brighton (A) – Sat, 8 October
Everton (H) – Sat, 15 October
Manchester United (A) – Wed, 19 October

Conte’s other two natural right wing-back options, Matt Doherty and Djed Spence, are yet to start a game this season, while the Tottenham boss also has the option of using Ivan Perisic in that role.

Emerson’s injury may actually prove to be a blessing in disguise as Doherty might now get a chance to play himself into the team. If the Republic of Ireland international plays anywhere near as well as he did in the second half of last season, Conte will find it difficult to drop him.
