‘The least equipped’ – Ex-Inter Milan player wants them to draw Spurs in CL

Tottenham Hotspur are through to the knockout stages of the Champions League and while we await the draw for the last 16 on November 7, Stephane Dalmat has highlighted the North London side as the team ‘least equipped’ for the challenge.

Spurs managed to finish at the top of Group D after a dramatic game week 6 on Tuesday night. Tottenham beat Marseille 2-1 in the dying embers of the game and will now face what is considered a more favourable side of the draw for the next round.

The teams that Spurs can face in the last 16 are Club Brugge, Borussia Dortmund, PSG, AC Milan, Inter Milan, and RB Leipzig. Liverpool and Eintracht Frankfurt are the only group teams to finish second in their respective groups that Tottenham cannot be drawn against.

Dalmat, who made 28 appearances for Tottenham during a loan spell in 2003 (Transfermarkt), hopes Spurs are drawn against Inter Milan, another of his former clubs. That’s not because of any sentimental reason though, he just thinks Spurs will be the easiest team to beat.

Speaking to L’Interista, Dalmat said: “Given that they are all very strong, I say Conte’s Tottenham, because of all of them, they seem to be the least equipped to me.”

If Spurs were to draw Inter Milan, it would pose a very interesting clash for Antonio Conte of course. The Italian won the league with Inter before leaving last summer and moving on to Spurs in November 2021.

Such a fixture would also see Ivan Perisic come up against his former side, where he made 254 appearances (Transfermarkt).

Spurs Web Opinion

To be fair, every team that makes it through the group stage is going to be an incredibly tough opponent so there’s not really any one team you’d particularly like to face. That said, the likes of Dortmund and the Milan sides are very strong and PSG are likely to be the main team you want to avoid.
