The new expected opening date for the Spurs stadium

Tottenham Hotspur announced this morning that their brand new stadium would be delayed even further this season.

The ground was supposed to be ready and open for matches on September 15 against Liverpool, but issues with the critical safety systems put an end to this dream.

Since then fans have had their hopes nipped in the bud over and over again, with the latest coming today.

The announcement said that Premier League matches against Watford, Newcastle, and Leicester would now be played at Wembley, with the last of these taking place on February 10.

It may also be a case of no Champions League in the new stadium this season if Spurs and knocked out in the round of 16, as the announcement named the Feb 13 match against Dortmund as Wembley bound too.

If Spurs were to reach the next round of the FA Cup, that too would be held at Wembley, along with the Arsenal derby on March 2.

The Guardian claim that the best case scenario in terms of a grand opening date would now be March 16.
