The reason why Gareth Bale was not in the Spurs squad to face Everton

Jose Mourinho has explained why Gareth Bale was not included in his Tottenham Hotspur squad for the FA Cup fifth round tie against Everton.

Bale has not featured for Tottenham since the 1-0 defeat at Brighton late last month, where he has withdrawn after 61 minutes and found himself as an unused substitute for the last two Premier League fixtures against Chelsea and West Bromwich Albion (transfermarkt).

The Welshman trained with his team-mates yesterday but was not said to be entirely happy with how he was feeling and instead has decided to remain in London to work with the club’s sports science team.

In contrast, he took to Instagram yesterday to post a photo of himself in training along with the caption ‘Good session today.’

The 31-year-old, who returned to the club on a season long loan switch from Real Madrid to much fanfare has only made 15 appearances in all competitions this season, scoring four goals (transfermarkt).

Football journalist Alasdair Gold took to Twitter to confirm Mourinho’s reasoning.
