The results Tottenham will want tonight in the Champions League

Tottenham Hotspur already booked their place in the last 16 of the Champions League after their heroics at the Camp Nou last night.

A number of other sides have also already qualified, but as Spurs finished second in their group, they will be drawn against teams who topped their own respective groups.

So far this is: Porto, Dortmund, Barcelona, PSG, and Real Madrid, with groups E, F and G still to be decided.

Spurs cannot be drawn against Barca, or any English clubs in the next round.

We take a look at the final three groups, who could top them, and which results would be best for Spurs.

Group E

Tonight Ajax take on Bayern Munich in a straight fight for the top spot in Group E.

If Ajax win at home, they take first place, if they draw or lose, Bayern qualify top.

Despite them being a strong side, I think Spurs would definitely rather Ajax be a possible opponent than Bayern at the moment.

Group F

Currently Man City top the group F table, and a number of things would have to happen for this to change.

However, City cannot be drawn against Spurs in the next round, which leaves a greater chance of Tottenham getting one of the strong teams like Real or PSG.

What Tottenham would ideally want is for Lyon to come through and finish first in Group F, as they would be a more attractive opponent.

For this to happen, Man City would have to lose to Hoffenheim, and Lyon would have to beat Shaktar, unlikely to say the least.

Group H

Group H is a tricky one. The fight for first place is between Juventus and Man United. If United come top, Spurs can’t face them but are more likely to get another big side. If Juve come top, Tottenham could face them.

After last season, I would say avoiding Juventus altogether would be wise at the moment, so a United upset could do wonders.

For this to happen, United would have to beat Valencia away, and Juventus would have to lose to Young Boys, again unlikely.

Table topping teams – best case scenario

Porto, Dortmund, Barcelona, Real Madrid, PSG, Ajax, Lyon, Man United

This would leave Porto, Dortmund, Real Madrid, PSG, Ajax, and Lyon as possible opponents.

Table topping teams – most realistic scenario

Porto, Dortmund, Barcelona, Real Madrid, PSG, Bayern Munich, Man City, Juventus

This would leave Porto, Dortmund, Real Madrid, PSG, Bayern Munich, and Juventus as possible opponents.
