Pablo Zabaleta believes the time is right for Harry Kane to leave Tottenham and claims it ‘would be nice’ to see him play in a Manchester City shirt.
Kane has been heavily linked with a move to City throughout the summer and was left out of the Spurs squad which beat Pep Guardiola’s side 1-0 in their opening Premier League fixture on Sunday.
The defeat is already City’s second of the campaign without scoring after losing the Community Shield to Leicester, which has surely increased the pressure on Guardiola to replace Sergio Aguero, who departed for Barcelona after the expiration of his contract.
Former City defender Zabaleta spent the best part of a decade at the Etihad Stadium, and now feels it is time for Kane to seek pastures new and depart North London to join his old team.
He told the PA News Agency: “We’ll see if the money is there and will splash the money for Harry Kane but will be nice to see him playing for City.
“He’s in the right moment for him to go to a different club and have different experience, when you look at all the top teams they are looking for players who can score 25 goals a season, you always need players like that.
“Obviously Sergio [Aguero] left the club and they only have Gabriel Jesus as a proper striker but we all know the quality of Kane if you want to win trophies and [he] knows he’s done enough for Spurs and wants to move, maybe City are one of those clubs.”
Kane has obviously given a lot to Spurs since his breakthrough in 2015, so he is worth a lot more to them than he is to Manchester City. But if Guardiola’s side are desperate enough to acquire his signature, then they must be prepared to pay what Daniel Levy values him at – especially with deals becoming harder to agree as the transfer deadline approaches.
