The shirt number that Emerson Royal will wear for Spurs this season

Tottenham Hotspur announced the signing of Barcelona right-back Emerson Royal and the Brazilian’s new number has also been revealed.

After signing for a fee of £25.8m, the 22-year-old will wear the number 12 shirt for Spurs.

Last season, the number was worn by Joe Hart but earlier this summer the goalkeeper left the club, joining Celtic on a three-year deal after only one season in North London.

Emerson reportedly will not have to undergo any quarantine when he arrives in England and will be ready to link up with Nuno Espirito Santo’s squad ahead of the next Premier League match against Crystal Palace on September 11.

The Brazilian will compete with both Japhet Tanganga and Matt Doherty for the right-back berth, with Tanganga having been given the nod in the opening three fixtures of the new Premier League campaign.

I’m certain Emerson would’ve hoped that number 2 was available but it is still taken by Doherty, who ironically is probably number three in the pecking order.

Hopefully, we see Emerson produce some excellent performances this season wearing the number 12.
