‘The squad is not so big’ – Conte on the need for ‘difficult’ January transfers

Antonio Conte has claimed that he honestly does not know whether Tottenham will sign any new players by the end of the January transfer window.

The Italian was keen to reiterate the January window is a difficult one to navigate, but added that Spurs will move for players if the right opportunity comes about.

He also commented that the current Tottenham squad is not very big and players need to be purchased in order to improve the strength in depth.

However, there are now only two weeks of the transfer window left and Tottenham do not appear to be any closer to signing anyone than on New Year’s Day.

Daniel Levy is famed for his late deals and Fabio Paratici is known for finding unique and creative solutions via free transfers and loans with obligations, so it remains to be seen whether Spurs fans see some late action.

Conte said (Football London): “Honestly, I don’t know. I know that the transfer window in January is always very difficult and it is more simple when you start the season to buy important players.

“In January it is not easy, but at the same time we know very well that if there is the opportunity and also if it’s not the best opportunity, but we need to do something.

“Also if I repeat that this could not be the best opportunity but I think that are in a situation where we have to try to implement the squad because the squad is not so big.”

Spurs Web Opinion:

Tottenham are well in the hunt for the top four places in the Premier League now. Failing to add one or two new players would be a big mistake. No one expects an expensive January overhaul, but Tottenham need some fresh faces.
