As Tottenham begin what could be a busy summer of transfer business, we take a look at the available squad numbers for Antonio Conte’s new recruits.
Transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano has got Spurs fans excited in recent days. Firstly, the Italian tweeted that Fraser Forster will join the club as the new backup goalkeeper to Hugo Lloris.
According to Romano, Forster will reportedly join the Lilywhites on a free transfer ‘very soon’ providing an experienced, homegrown option for Conte, with Gianluca DiMarzio claiming that Fiorentina are looking at bringing in current Spurs keeper Pierluigi Gollini.
Conte has also sanctioned a move for Inter Milan’s Ivan Perisic, with Romano tweeting that the Croatian will move to North London to link up with his former boss on a two-year deal.
It is great to see Conte given these two players early on in the window and adding Perisic’s quality on a free transfer is certainly shrewd business.
The 33-year-old currently wears the number 14 shirt for I Nerazzurri, a number held by Joe Rodon at Spurs. However, with the Welshman reportedly looking to seek new pastures in search of regular game time this summer (Football.London), the number may become available.
Perisic has also donned the number 44. This is also held at Spurs by youngster Dane Scarlett. But with Sun journalist Tom Barclay claiming that Preston North End are interested in taking Scarlett on loan next season, this could be another squad number that becomes available.

Surprisingly, Forster is another player who has also worn 44, so this could be an option for him if Scarlett is to move on loan.
During his spell at Celtic, the English keeper chose to wear number 67 in honour of Celtic’s famous European cup winning side of 1967 (67hailhail).

It may be early to speculate on which numbers Spurs two new recruits will choose to wear due to the fact that there is likely to be a number of incomings and outgoings that determine which squad numbers are available.
One thing is for sure, “Perisic 14” will strike fear into any right-back in the league.
